The best part of this house is that it is not only under the ground, but also equally functional as it is beautiful. Designed by Make Architects, the house has been designed to be 8,000 sq ft. structure, which will also keep the energy consumption to the minimum.

The Cave House

This cave house been actually carved out of a mountain. This house was first used as a mine for decades, then it was transformed into a concert venue and finally a home.

Swiss Mountain Underground House

In the Swiss village of Vals, this underground house stands apart from the rest. It was a collaboration between Netherlands architects at SeARCH and Christian Muller Architects. The outdoor area lead you into the house that has been built in the land.

Sedum House

Sedum house is slated to be the house of the future. It is set in steep sand hill inland in North Norfloak Coast. The sun is the main point around which the house was designed. The wooden hood covers the main living rooms on the first floor. The hood keeps the heat off the glass windows in summers, but in winters the house is not devoid of any sunlight. The base of the house is built with flints. The four bedrooms of the house are buried in the tunnel and the natural cover of the ground provides it insulation.

This cave house is in Bomarzo, Itlay and is a 16th century build. The entrance is the USP of this house. I really don’t know what it looks like inside, but I am sure it is as fantastical as its entrance.

Cumbria Underground House

Local architect John Bodger designed this house for Phil and Helen Reddy. It was designed in such a way that a two story house burrowed backwards in the rock. It is built on an old quarry site.

Malator Underground Eco House

Malator is one modern underground home in Druidstone and it is also said to be the ‘blueprint for the future of Welsh Housing’. It has also been given the local nickname of Teletubby house, owing to the the turf roof, steel chimney and its peephole doorway.

Bruce Townsley bought his missile base property from Ed Peden, who is a missile base real estate mogul. He thought that it might be one project that would be challenging after completing his several remodeling projects. The house in this base has been made is such a way that is a staircase that leads him to the first and then the second level of the house.

Greek Isles Underground House

Designed by Deca Architecture, this house has been especially envisioned to stand the windy weather of Aegean Sea. It has been carved in the ground in such a way that only the second story is visible above the ground and has been built with mostly natural materials.

Wow, this one is my favorite. This house from KWK Promes has been designed n such a way that the green roof of the house is accessible only to the residents via a set of stairs from inside the house. blending perfectly with its green surroundings, the house provides a perfect interaction between outdoors and indoors for its residents.

This house is half-hidden in the earth and its structure is designed in such a way that it responds to the needs of controlled lighting, heating and cooling-cross winds. It also ha two slopes on the adjacent hillsides. Emerging in the center, the house gives the appearance of a fantastical and intriguing pre-historic ruin that has been just discovered.

Missile Silo Home

Atlas F Missile Base, Adirondack Mts, New York was being offered from 20th Century Castles at $2.3 million. It has its own private airport. The entire property consists of grounds, forest and trails. Above ground, the property features a hangar and spacious open living room and fireplace with wrap around porch. Below the ground, which is accessible by stairs was once a the launch control center. And, now is a two level, 2300 sq.ft., 3 bedroom 2-1/2 bath with open living area and kitchen adjoined by a spiral staircase.
